Hire Me

Hello, I work as a

UX Designer

BRING SIMPLICITY INTO COMPLEX SOFTWARE SOLUTIONS
Developing smart solutions to improve the daily tasks of people by using my design skills and never ending desire to simplify, will lead to improved interaction, reduced mental workload and enhanced efficiency

UX Consultant

IT TAKES MORE THAN DESIGN TO CREATE SUSTAINABLE CHANGE
Supporting organisations to innovate by applying my facilitation skills and never ending belief that change is progress, will lead to a shared vision and pragmatic steps that turn all stakeholders into solution owners

UX Pioneer

PROVEN METHODS, MAYBE NEW TO YOUR BUSINESS
I started before it was called User Experience; pioneering for software solutions mainly in high performance and dedicated engineering environments. But don’t you worry, UX Design is based on the User Centred Design Approach; a solid method that has been around for about 50 years.

About me

Design Thinker

Designing = knowing that you don’t know.
There are always more solutions than problems. Let’s discover the problem and then we’ll have a ball :-) I’m no longer a designer only, neither can I consult you without sketching new solutions

Team Player

No one designs alone. Even if I am the one doing the sketching, it is about the users, the software development team and all other stakeholders. Decide together what can be done now, with the current resources. That doesn’t mean dreaming is not allowed…and yes, I also like watching the All Blacks :-)

Never Give Up

Non mollare mai – never give up

I’ve been pioneering…this basically means I've been faced with resistance and looked at with doubt all the time. I didn’t give up.

Innovation = Change

I learned it the hard way; innovation & change management go hand in hand. It’s great that companies want a better UX of their products and services, but to be succesful she'll need organisational change.
Wanna know a little secret? There is no shortcut to the top, it’s a step by step process to get there. So let’s do that together.

Head Strong

I’ve heard “that’s not possible” a lot of times…it's only made me more headstrong. I’ve gained a lot of experience discovering ways to make it happen. Unconventional ways. They’re my ways. Are they that different? No, I follow the User Centred Design Approach, it just takes some time to make that tangible for people that are new to it.

Listen

Communication is key.
Listening is the essence.
May I listen to you?

Unconventional

I'm a free thinker. I make my path. For me, there is no known path. If I am constrained to follow the conventional ones, I start to fade…So yes, I swam up the stream. Now it seams the Industry has realised the added value of UX Design and processes are accelerating down stream. Wanna ride some waves with me? Do know that I’m already on the look out for the next new thing!

International Outlook

Olandese D.O.C.
100% Dutch but with an international outlook and forever a taste of Italy in me.

Think Big

A strong vision and a step by step approach help customers forward in their UX maturity and enable business transformation and innovation throughout the organisation. Being genuinely interested in others helps to find ways to make it happen. Together. Pragmatic next steps are easier to take when the vision is there. Then it's like learning to skate: challenging but exciting and fun at the same time.

Industrial UX Solutions

Mass consumer applications? That’s not my cup of tea. Other people do that a lot better. Specific software solutions for specific user types with specific and often complex tasks, preferably in (high) tech environments, that’s my drill!

My Favourites

I work best: In a technology pushed environment (there are limits…), in a diverse team, with open minded (scientific) software developers, with strong visual designers and architects that are true conceptual thinkers. I then create a setting where it is ok to fail, where there's the courage and willingness to try it differently and to not give up that easily.

I Bring

Ideas, Fast Thinking, Solutions, Simplicity, Change, Involvement, Vision, Concepts, Innovation, Enthusiasm, Insights, Passion, Faith, Fun, A smile.

Portfolio

Cloud and Machine Solutions - MOBA
Identifying the bottlenecks in the current workflow and creating awareness of its complexity among the stakeholders. Working in a multidisciplinary team I laid the base for a new workflow that is simplified and more consistent, taking into consideration the different users and their needs.
Smart Buildings - JNV
In 2016 JNV launched DARWIN- a new solution for Smart Buildings - integrating and connecting many different systems that exist in a building to create intelligent services. DARWIN captures all data and allows its users to get real-time notifications, detailed analytics and summary reports.
KPI Dashboard on MES - Outotec
Outotec was developing a MES Solution and desired a dashboard for their Technicians working with Outotecs Dewatering Equipment in mines around the world. The goal was to help customers to debottleneck their process, minimise down time and guarantee a certain throughput.
Reservoir Modelling API - Shell
Our team was responsible for a software solution producing a uniform output file format independently of the application used to produce the forecast simulation data. I designed the Interaction Concept and was involved in the Visual Design for this Windows application.
Professional Light Control - Philips Research
There existed a very complex application offering a lot of possibilities and flexibility to the end user to set up lighting systems in professional spaces like shops and offices. I turned the concept of the application completely upside down, making it more comprehensive, easier to use and scalable for future additions of functionality.
MES Implementation - AkzoNobel
Proof of Concept of MES implementation for a new paint production line in Germany with as main goal a higher First Time Right rate due to less mistakes at the shopfloor and a more controlled production process to ultimately save time and money.
Webapplications for Printing & Pallets - Bavaria
Bavaria was in the process of implementing more and more web applications for their production processes as well as for reporting. One of the goals was a more consistent way of working and therefore they needed a UX Designer to join the software development team.
New HMI for Steel Machinery - Voortman
Voortman Steel Machinery wanted to significantly improve the user experience of their VACAM control software that controls their steel and plate processing machines. Their existing solution was a Windows forms based touch screenapplication, but very much mouse and menu based and slightly old fashioned
New Generation F1 Software - McLaren
For the new generation Data Analysis Software System (ATLAS 10), all software and functionality were changed to a new development platform. In the user experience, the main aspects to improve were a better consistency in the application structure, clearer visualisation and screen lay out and enhanced ease of use.
New Applications & Guidelines - Tetrapak
While working for Niew Design, I worked on several projects, from introducing new services (web applications) to improving the consistency of the different User Interfaces in control rooms as well as on factory equipment, taking into consideration SCADA standards, Industrial standards, TetraPak standards & Branding and multi language.
Android App for FDA drivers - Ferrari
As a freelancer for RElab, I continued working with the FDA. My main role was UX Designer for the tools we developed, supporting the young drivers' development and the changes in their way of working. To support the latter, I continued to coach the race engineers.
Train the Trainer materials - Fort Dearborn
I managed and developed the first project in the US: a complete kit for Fort Dearborn’s Customer Care Training Courses. This included Train the Trainer Sessions, Facilitator’s Manual, Participants Workbook and all the other classroom materials that were needed for this game board format.
Talent Development tool FDA Drivers - Ferrari
For the first 2 years I contributed to this young drivers’ development program, supporting them in the personal growths of the drivers and later their engineers. Our main objective was to map the young drivers and their talents, to make them more responsible for their own progress and to turn the race engineers into coaches as well.
Organisational Development - JCI
For over 2 years I consulted this company and supported its staff dealing with their weekly challenges. Due to its history, hot topics were Organisational Change, Leadership and Team Work. I have worked intensively with key people in middle management.
Facilitator - Infinity Unconventional Education
What I learned in these years are the skills every consultant needs most: agile communication and facilitation. Know how to deal with resistance, how to bring a group from A to B, how to make stakeholders reflect on a situation and define the problem, how to involve people in the creation process so they all feel problem owner or at least involved (in the solution).
Redesign for F1 Data Analysis - McLaren
I was hired as a contractor to work on the user’s manual and to do an expert review on both ATLAS (Data Acquisition and Analysis Software) and System Monitor (ECU Control Software).User interviews and reviewing both programmes were my main responsibilities. Besides my report, I also came up with UI Guidelines and I redesigned the main dialogue windows.
Product Design UMASIS - TNO
UMASIS is based on a Finite Difference algorithm with a Graphical User Interface that enables the user to easily draw complex geometries and assign material properties, define the transducers and simulation settings, without detailed knowledge of the FD algorithm, and analyse the simulation results by visualising the waves.
Adiante - a Tour with Nuna 2 - TU Delft
In 2003 the 2nd Nuon Solar Team won the World Solar Challenge in Australia with their self designed and built solar car Nuna 2, proving again that young enthusiasm and technological education form a winning combination. To convey this message in 2004, the team invented Adiante: a journey through 15 countries in two weeks time. I was part of the Adiante team and its organisation.
Graduation Project for Van Amersfoort Racing
The key aspect of evaluating the driver’s performance is the communication between the driver and his race engineer. The main goal was to design a tool that intensified that communication that made the data easier accessible to the young driver, who may feel challenged mapping his performance on the car data.
Internship for Ferrari
The goal was to design a new dashboard lay out for the implementation of infotainment systems, while taking ergonomics and the “Ferrari feeling” into consideration. Contrasting requirements like these imply working with many different people and being able to communicate with engineering, marketing as well as test drivers and F1 crew.
First Formula Student Team - TU Delft
International contest of designing, building and racing a Formula type race car. With a group of motivated and skilled students we pioneered this project that still exists at Delft University of Technology and has been quit successful. I was Manager PR & Sponsoring of the first Delft team.
